Inspiring Web Find: A Father's Rules For Finding Fulfillment

I found this very inspiring story about a dying father who left a legacy for his children, family and friends. And thought it would be nice to share a part of it. You can read the full article here.

I grew up with a father for only a short time. He went missing on a shipwreck when I was three. I could not imagine how hard it was for my mother at that time. That's why I believe that those of you who have both parents who love you, you should always show how you appreciate and feel blessed to have them. Read on...

(Disclaimer: Modified as necessary for this post's purpose.)

Be courteous, be punctual, always say please and thank you, and be sure to hold your knife and fork properly. Others take their cue on how to treat you from your manners.

Be kind, considerate and compassionate when others are in trouble, even if you have problems of your own. Others will admire your selflessness and will help you in due course.

Show moral courage. Do what is right, even if that makes you unpopular. It is important to be able to look at myself in the mirror every morning and not feel guilt or remorse. Live in this world with a pretty clear conscience.

Show humility. Stand your ground but pause to reflect on what the other side are saying, and back off when you know you are wrong. Never worry about losing face. That only happens when you are pig-headed.

Learn from your mistakes. You will make plenty so use them as a learning tool. If you keep making the same mistake or run into a problem, you’re doing something wrong.

Avoid disparaging someone to a third party; it is only you who will look bad. If you have a problem with someone, tell them face to face.

Hold fire! If someone crosses you, don’t react immediately. Once you say something it can never be taken back, and most people deserve a second chance.

Have fun. If this involves taking risks, so be it. If you get caught, hold your hands up.

How to reach Tubod Flowing Waters Resort

I used to just hear about the place. I never imagined that we would move in near the location. It's quite an irony how people from faraway places are the ones who usually visit while those living near Tubod  often take it for granted, with the usual thinking that it won't go elsewhere anyway. Thus with the no-hurry attitude to check out the place. Ain't that the usual scenario?

The first time I went to Tubod Flowing Waters  which is located at Brgy. Tubod, Minglanilla was when I was invited by a friend to her birthday. After that, a relative's daughter also had a kiddie party there. My family and I haven't yet gone there by ourselves. It's a nice enough place. I like the swimming pools, mini-zoo which includes a snake, monkeys, birds and many more. There's also a butterfly sanctuary. Sphering ball sport is available too for the adventurous in spirit.

Now, on how to get to Tubod Flowing Waters Resort, here's the knowledge I can share:

(From SM City Cebu)
- Ride on a KMK bus. For aircon, fare is P28 while for non-aircon it's P23.
- When you reach Tubod corner, ride on a tricycle. Fare is P10. If you're okay with a "habal-habal", it costs more. Probably P15. I am not really sure as I'm not into riding one.

(From Mactan Cebu International Airport)
- It's best to just hop on a taxi. That way you can take a shortcut route via South Road Properties (SRP).

Entrance fee is P100. Cottage rent is between P300-500 depending on the capacity. Rooms are available as well especially for an overnight stay.

For more details, check out their official website. Have a great time with your family, friends, relatives and colleagues! It's always best to get to unwind once in a while.

Pets' Wish

When did people start having pets? It makes me wonder. And I'm quite sure that if we are to have a world without them, it would be a less exciting place to live in.

Pets can be birds, dogs, hamsters, cats and a lot more. Even a tiger! Although as to how the owner managed, I'd rather not want to know. These lovable creatures play a good role in our lives. While dogs guard houses and "human-talking" birds playfully mimic some words uttered by people they encounter, there are also those who just give their owner a feeling of ease and happiness. Having a pet myself, I can very much relate to the feeling.

It affects me when I hear news about people maltreating animals. They seem to forget that pets are also living things. We may have higher intellect but that doesn't mean that we already have the right to do anything we want with them. Is it that easy to forget how some animals became heroes saving people's lives? The fact that they did, they deserve to be treated with love and care. If they can talk, that would have been the wish they want to tell us.

Growing up with a dog in our home makes me fond with them. To dog-lovers and those who are yet undecided on whether they should have one as pet, I would like to share my story with you.

+1 for Google Plus!

Maybe just out of curiosity or our longing to have better privacy that more and more people are trying out Google+.

What I like about this latest trending site is that it indeed offers more options to shy away from too many prying eyes. Image texture is nice, environment's not too crowded, limit view access per post and you can even choose to no longer view a post by muting it in case of disturbing photos and the like.

Hangout is cool as well. You get to keep in touch with your friends with a live webcam. That, and a whole lot more.

Not yet on Google +? Try it out! Click here. If ever you see an "Over capacity" message, have me or people you know who already joined invite you. Happy exploring and enjoy with your circle of friends!

Harry Potter 7: Read or Watch - Which Is Faster?

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Year 7)
Which is faster: Reading the Book or Watching the Movies?

Those who have an extremely efficient reading level (or higher) can finish reading the book faster than watching the movies.

The book has 198,227 words (or according to another source, it's 204,796), while the movies have a running time of 276 minutes (Part 1: 146 minutes, Part 2: 130 minutes). So based on this:

You must read 719 words or more per minute to finish the book faster than the movie (for 198,227 words).
You must read 743 words or more per minute to finish the book faster than the movie (for 204,796 words).

Time to spend in reading HP7

SPEED LEVEL WORDS PER MINUTE 198,227 WORDS 204,796 WORDS
Average reader 200 - 250 793 to 992 mins 820 to 1024 mins
Extremely efficient reading level 3 700 - 750 264 to 282 mins 273 to 293 mins
Extremely efficient reading level 4 750 - 800 247 to 264 mins 256 to 273 mins
Super reading level 800 - 850 233 to 247 mins 240 to 256 mins
Virtual speed readers 850 - 900 220 to 233 mins 227 to 240 mins
(Reference: Mindbluff.com)

Although I'm an above average reader (250-300 WPM), the movies will still finish first before I complete the book. How about you, what's your speed? Can your book-reading beat movie-watching? Take the test here and leave a comment to let me know.

Keeping Secrets

"The end does not justify the means"... always.

It's ironic how some feel they are justified at keeping their wrongdoings a secret for the reason that they are "protecting" their loved ones. Don't they realize that the fact they were able to do something that would hurt the people they love and who loves them in return, implies they don't care the way you thought they did?

I for one am not into tolerating such unfaithfulness. Trust is given wholeheartedly and nobody is excused to break that. No reason is applicable at all. Every time you are about to do something bad, always think of being in another person's shoes. If you are to be done the same thing, what would you feel? How would you react? Nah, perhaps you can't imagine because you are not the victim in the first place. But know that karma exists whether you believe it or not. Maybe not that soon but it will come. So always practice trustworthiness without ever thinking that you can get out of the mess you created yourself. God is watching.

Planning Ahead vs. Impulsiveness

I am the type of person who gains a feeling of fulfillment whenever I plan something and it yields good results. Planning is not easy that's why some people prefer not to. However, as long as you have the right mindset, you can definitely pull something off instead of as they say, "going to war without any weapon".

When do you plan?
Almost if not everything in life needs planning. Below are just some examples I can think of while writing this.
  • As simple as a general household cleaning.
  • During days when you got more than a handful tasks to accomplish at work.
  • Organizing or attending a major event.
  • Starting a business.
As one plans, it involves good memory of the needed to do's, motivation to do what must be done as well as goal-setting.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2: Movie Review

Disclaimer:
If you haven't watched the movie yet and intend to do so, DO NOT proceed from here. You will find spoilers on this post.

For a movie that needed to be divided into two parts, the finale of Harry Potter series did not disappoint me. Perhaps many would agree though that they can use an extended version. Nah! To avoid boring the viewers or probably to lower the cost of tickets, running time would have to be more or less two hours. I enjoyed watching the movie that I want to list down all the scenes that I can vividly recall:

Pastillas de Leche

My last recollection of eating pastillas was during my elementary days when my best friend invited me to her house where we watched "The Sound of Music" movie and ate the yummy and creamy sweets. Remembering how I liked eating one before, I decided to make my own after all these years. I've read that kids would love it but surely young at heart like me will like it too. Here goes my plain and simple recipe of pastillas de leche:

Ingredients
- 1 cup of powdered milk
- 1/2 cup of condensed milk
- a generous amount of white sugar (for rolling)

Steps
Mix the first two ingredients thoroughly. After making sure that no lumps of the powdered milk exist, set aside the mixture for 15-30 minutes to make sure it's firm enough to roll into the sugar. Once you're done, enjoy!

Life

For some, old age is a blessing while to others it could be a curse. Think about those old people who are rejected by their families walking on the streets with nowhere to go and so little to go on. There are also those who are literally waiting for death to take them. On the other hand, most young people these days seem to take life for granted. They succumb to vices and allow their friends to influence them negatively. Gone are the more down-to-earth, respectful and loving people from the past. While they are given the energy to do things, they tend to get lost and head into the wrong direction.

With that in mind, I can't help but wonder how complex life really is. Yes, we are created by God and given the freedom to do what we can and must in this world in order to survive but there are alot of happenings we can't explain try hard as we must. Why we are in a situation where we'd rather not be, how other people do well in their lives, how in this humungous world we stumble upon acquaintances and friends that become a part of our circle. Perhaps, fate indeed plays a role. We make our own decisions but an unseen force is there that somehow leads us to where we are and ought to be. It is in that realization that the only thing we can do which is the most important, is to pray for guidance and strength. Living life to the fullest without thinking too much of its likeness to a spider's web. That way, we'll have peace of mind and a real happiness we can all experience if we just allow ourselves.
